Light Aircraft Crash in West Java Kills Former Air Force Spokesman

A light-sport aircraft crashed in West Java on Sunday, killing a former Indonesian Air Force spokesman and seriously injuring his civilian co-pilot.

A light-sport aircraft crashed Sunday morning in Ciampea, West Java, killing a former Indonesian Air Force spokesman and injuring his civilian co-pilot.

The aircraft departed from Atang Sendjaja Airport in Bogor at 9:08 a.m. and crashed less than an hour later, at around 10:00 a.m., according to the Indonesian Air Force.

The plane, operated by the Indonesian Aero Sport Federation, was piloted by Fajar Adriyanto, a former Air Force spokesman. Adriyanto was killed in the crash. His co-pilot, Roni Ahmad, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Air Force spokesman I Nyoman Suadnyana confirmed the aircraft was deemed airworthy before takeoff. “The plane was in airworthy condition before departure,” he said, adding that an investigation is underway.

The crash site in Ciampea drew the attention of residents as authorities secured the area and launched preliminary inquiries.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether mechanical or environmental factors played a role in the crash.
